- Research Outline
- Food banks receive tons of food Loss from food-related companies to distribute them to those in need and welfare facilities without charge. Several food banks have recently been established in Fukuoka Prefecture. However, these organizations have weak foundations without adequate facilities for storing and distributing food. Due to this situation, they must limit the volume of food Loss they receive. This research project aims to strengthen the foundations for food banks while putting a social system into practical use in all areas of Fukuoka Prefecture to continuously and steadily leverage food Loss produced within the same prefecture.
- Research Results
- To put an ideal social system to practical use, on April 1, 2019, the Fukuoka Food Bank Conference (general incorporated association) was established. Through various projects, such as “Pioneering of food providing companies and supporting companies,” “Integrated reception and management of donated food,” “Organizing and operating food traceability systems,” and “Expanding activities of existing food banks and supporting the establishment of new food banks,” we have prepared a support system for food banks based in Fukuoka Prefecture. The strengthening of food bank foundations resulted in the increase of companies that donate food to 163, volumes of food handled to 142 tons, food receivers including children’s cafeterias to 236, and individual support cases to 319 (in total).
